FAQ

A CHECK LIST FOR SELECTING
AN INTERIOR LANDSCAPE CONTRACTOR
(What should I ask and what should I look for)

HOW LONG HAS THE COMPANY BEEN IN BUSINESS?

This is one method to determine if the company will be in business to serve your interest tomorrow, next month, next year, or just disappear like so many in our industry.

MR. PLANT has been in business for over 40 years.

DOES THE COMPANY HAVE AN EXISTING TRACK RECORD THAT I CAN EXAMINE?

Can you see actual evidence of the company past work which would indicate what it can do for you at the present time. Have you compared their work with others?

MR. PLANT has hundreds of customers in the Southern California area.

DOES THE COMPANY HAVE REFERENCES THAT I CAN CONTACT?

Are references numerous and available to contact and are references credible?

MR. PLANT is currently working with many corporations that you may contact.

WHAT KIND OF NURSERY MATERIAL DOES THE COMPANY OFFER TO SELL YOU?

The State has to regularly inspect the interior plants which assure you of having pest and disease free plants sold to you and installed on your job site?

MR. PLANT only buys tropical interior plants which have been certified and inspected by the State.

IF I AM GOING TO HAVE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON MY INTERIOR PLANTS, IS THE COMPANY LICENSED BY THE STATE TO PERFORM PEST REMOVAL ACTIVITIES?

If pest control is included as part of the maintenance contract on the interior foliage, the Company must have a license to perform this work. It’s the law - and with all the public being very aware of dangerous chemicals and the protection of the environment, as well as the individuals, wouldn’t it be best to abide by the law especially where pesticides are concerned?

MR. PLANT has a licensed horticulturist for pest control applications.

IS THE COMPANY A MEMBER OF ANY PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION CONNECTED WITH THE INDUSTRY. IF SO, WHICH ONES?

Being a joiner does not mean guaranteed success. However, being a member of many of the trade organizations means that the company is keeping abreast with all the current advancements within the industry while becoming more professional, and might also preform a much better job for the customer.

MR. PLANT is a member of ALCA (American Associated Landscape Contractors of America) and CIPA (California Interior Plantscaping Association).

DOES THE COMPANY HAVE A INTERIOR HORTICULTURIST ON ITS STAFF?

Just one more indication that you would be dealing with an individual that is truly a professional within the industry, who is very highly qualified, and will deal with you in a truly ethical and professional manner.

MR.PLANT has an Interior Horticulturist on staff.

WILL THE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN WHO WILL BE SERVICING MY FOLIAGE BE DRESSED IN A UNIFORM OR IN EVERYDAY STREET CLOTHES?

Uniforms indicate additional professionalism on the job, and within the company. In addition, when your interior foliage is serviced by a fully uniformed technician it looks a great deal more professional to you, your employees, and your clients than someone dressed in casual street clothes.

MR. PLANT Environmental Managers wear company issued polo shirts  with the MR. PLANT logo.

ARE THE COMPANY’S MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS TRAINED IN ANY FORMAL MANNER, OR ARE THEY REGISTERED?

Inquire about the training of the individual who will be taking care of your plants. Did they have any formal training? After all, you do not want someone taking care of your plants if they barely know anything about them, and cannot recognize a problem when it arises.

MR. PLANT Environmental Managers go through a very extensive training on plant care and customer service.

DOES THE COMPANY CARRY FULL WORKMANS COMPENSATION INSURANCE AS WELL AS PROPERTY AND LIABILITY INSURANCE? WHAT ARE THE LIMITS?

Check this out thoroughly and get the proof in writing. Many contractors fail to cover their employees with Workman’s Compensation insurance. What position would you be in if one of their employees hurts themselves on your premises? Also check property and liability coverage. What would happen if your property is damaged? Will the contractor make good on the damage or just disappear?

MR.PLANT maintains full Workman’s Compensation Insurance and a $1,000,000 business liability policy for every customer.
